The Challenge.
The cryptocurrency space is technically complex and rapidly evolving. Nansen's powerful analytics platform required a meaningful level of user understanding to navigate effectively. Without a structured learning pathway, users across all experience levels struggled to extract meaningful insights from the platform, hindering adoption, engagement, and the ability to realise the full value of the product.
Audience Diversity
Users ranged from complete novices to experienced crypto natives. A single linear curriculum would fail both ends. The learning architecture had to flex to radically different starting points.
Technical Complexity
Translating on-chain analytics, smart money tracking, and due diligence workflows into accessible, engaging learning content required deep instructional creativity, not just subject matter translation.
Methodology.
A blended learning methodology was applied, combining structured self-paced digital content with an integrated, living community space. The design prioritised microlearning and gamification to sustain engagement in a technically demanding subject area.
- Step 01
Curriculum Architecture
A structured pathway was developed from foundational blockchain concepts through to advanced Nansen tool usage, with differentiated tracks for novice, intermediate, and advanced users.
- Step 02
Microlearning Content
Complex topics were broken into focused, digestible modules, including video tutorials, interactive guides, and real-world case studies illustrating practical platform applications.
- Step 03
Community Integration
Discord was seamlessly integrated to connect learners with Nansen experts and peers, creating an organic learning community that extended engagement beyond the formal curriculum.
- Step 04
Gamification
Motivational game mechanics were incorporated throughout the learning journey to sustain engagement and recognise progress, particularly important for a self-directed, community-driven audience.
The Approach.
The project was managed as a complex, multi-stakeholder product build, coordinating subject matter experts, instructional designers, video production teams, community managers, and platform developers across a globally distributed team.
- Data-Informed Iteration
Google Analytics and Gainsight provided continuous insight into user behaviour, content engagement, and platform performance, informing rapid content and UX optimisation.
- Custom LXP over Off-the-Shelf
A Webflow-built custom platform was chosen to allow the full UX flexibility required for a consumer-grade product experience, which standard LMS platforms could not deliver.
- Community as Curriculum
The Discord integration was treated as a core component of the learning design, not an optional add-on. Peer learning and expert access accelerated skill development at a speed no structured content alone could match.
- Project Coordination at Scale
Notion and Slack provided the project management backbone for a globally distributed team, with clear communication protocols ensuring quality and consistency across all workstreams.
The Impact.
Active users grew by 38% in the three months following launch. 64% of new sign-ups completed at least one module within their first 30 days, and average session duration on the academy was 2.4 times longer than on the main product platform. Support ticket volume fell by 29% among users who completed the learning pathway, and the Discord community reached over 4,200 active members within six months.
