15-Minute Compliance.
Led the transformation of 62 compliance courses (ranging from 30 to 90 minutes each) into focused 15-minute microlearning modules, saving nearly 10 hours of training time per employee and generating an estimated £5.5 million in cost savings over six years.
over 6 years

The Challenge.
Places for People's compliance training programme required employees to complete 62 courses with individual durations ranging from 30 to 90 minutes. The cumulative time commitment was unsustainable, contributing to disengagement, scheduling difficulties, and inconsistent completion rates. A complete curriculum redesign was needed to preserve learning integrity while dramatically reducing the time burden.
Time as the Primary Barrier
The sheer volume of training hours created a compliance bottleneck. Employees could not realistically prioritise training alongside operational responsibilities, leading to poor completion rates and diminishing engagement.
Retention Without Duration
Condensing content required more than editing. It demanded a fundamental rethinking of learning objectives, content hierarchy, and instructional design to ensure meaningful knowledge retention in a fraction of the time.
Methodology.
A microlearning strategy was applied across all 62 courses, anchored in adult learning principles and a rigorous prioritisation of essential content. Each module was redesigned to achieve a single, clear learning objective within 15 minutes.
- Step 01
Curriculum Redesign
Learning objectives were reviewed and streamlined across the full suite. Non-critical content was eliminated. Only what changed behaviour on the job was retained.
- Step 02
Microlearning Architecture
Complex topics were decomposed into focused, single-objective modules. Chunking facilitated better comprehension, improved retention, and allowed flexible, self-directed engagement.
- Step 03
Interactive Development
Articulate 360 was used to embed interactive quizzes, scenario-based learning, and simulations, ensuring active engagement rather than passive consumption.
- Step 04
Multimedia Production
Short, dynamic animated videos were developed using Vyond to illustrate key concepts and support diverse learning styles, reducing cognitive load on text-heavy compliance topics.

The Approach.
The ROI case was built before the first module was designed. By quantifying the cost of existing training time, the business case for the redesign became the strategic anchor for all decisions, maintaining stakeholder alignment and investment throughout the project.
- Accessibility Standards
All modules were developed to WCAG guidelines, ensuring an inclusive experience for employees with diverse needs across the organisation.
- Data-Driven Iteration
Post-launch completion rates, quiz scores, and learner feedback were systematically analysed to identify improvement opportunities and optimise individual modules.
- SME Collaboration
Subject matter experts across compliance domains were engaged to ensure content accuracy, regulatory currency, and practical relevance in the condensed format.
- ROI as Strategic Anchor
The £5.5M projected cost saving over six years, based on reduced bums-in-seats time, provided a compelling business case that maintained executive support from project initiation to delivery.
The Impact.
The redesign cut 9.91 hours of training time per employee and projected £5.5 million in cost savings over six years. Compliance completion rates rose by 30%, with a sustained 90%+ compliance rate maintained organisation-wide. Average quiz scores on redesigned modules were 79% higher than the legacy courses, evidencing improved knowledge retention alongside the efficiency gains.
